Offre de rechercheOriginating from the merging of two laboratories (Marseille Observatory and the Space Astronomy Laboratory), the Marseille Astrophysics Laboratory is one of the four CNRS space laboratories. It itself belongs to OAMP (Marseille-Provence Astronomy Laboratory), a structure that federates the regional astronomy laboratories specialised in Sciences of the Universe. This whole will gather together in the Technology Park in a 10,000-m2 single building by the end of 2006

The Fresnel Institute hosts 140 researchers, teaching researchers and doctoral candidates specialising in research in Photonics, Electromagnetism and Signal and Image Processing.

The Institute comprises 8 research teams that deal with metamaterials, band-gap crystals, laser damage, light diffusion, image processing, statistical optics, biophotonics, non-linear microscopic techniques, hyperfrequency imaging, high-resolution imaging, optical filtering, production technologies for multilayer components, multidimensional signal processing, biometry etc.

IRPHE 

Non-Equilibrium Phenomena Research Institute - UMR 7342

 

This multidisciplinary institute is a mixed research unit under the joint authority of CNRS, Aix-Marseille University and Ecole Centrale Marseille; it mainly focuses on modelling complex macroscopic systems applied to aeronautics, environment, energetics and biomechanics.

IRPHE is made up of 7 research teams: aerodynamics, self-organisation in non-equilibrium systems, biomechanics, rotating and geophysical flows, atmosphere ocean structures, fragmentation, mixture and combustion, turbulent flows.

The unit is connected to the Carnot Star Institute, the Mechanics Energetics Research Federation (FR 3515) and is one of the four laboratories that are labelled LABEX MEC.

 IUSTI LABORATORY

IUSTI is a UMR CNRS 7343 Mixed Research Unit connected to Marseille's University Polytechnics (Polytech' Marseille). This major research unit is located on the Château Gombert venue; it takes part in research development and is paired with engineering training and research masters.

It includes 67 researchers and teaching researchers, 46 doctorands, 24 technical and administrative staff.

 

IUSTI research focuses on engineering sciences. It covers the fields of thermics, energetics, diphasic, reactive and granular media, compressible flows, shockwaves and phase changes.

It develops toward four main lines:

  •   Transfer physics
  •   Compressible flows, shockwaves and interfaces
  •   Combustion and risks
  •   Divided media and complex fluids

New research targets are emerging toward the living environment, such as biology and health, as well as toward civil engineering.

IUSTI SUPERSONIC WIND TUNNEL

IUSTI, UMR 7343 – Supersonic section

 

IUSTI's supersonic wind tunnel is a device that provides high speed flows (2000 km/h). It makes it possible to study phenomena occurring e.g. with supersonic aircraft, Airbus-type jet engines or Ariane V-type rockets. Thanks to its original design, high quality of flow is obtained for several hours, thus making this device an outstanding tool to study high speed flows that is second to none in French universities. Research is carried out in co-operation with the main actors in high speed aerodynamics (aeronautic organisations and  industries such as ONERA, CNES, Dassault Aviation, Rolls Royce...) as well as by means of domestic and international co-operation with other research teams.

The laboratory’s activity is based on modelling and high-performance computing as well as experimental investigation. The main themes are dealt with by two major departments: "Digital Fluid Mechanics and Transfer" and "Clean Use and Environment". Located in 2 venues, Marseille Provence Technology Park and l'Arbois, M2MP has a staff of 36 teaching researchers (including 8 researchers from Ecole Centrale Marseille), 9 CNRS researchers, 23 habilitated researchers, 40 doctoral candidates (2005-2008), 7 post-doc/ATER, 15 postes d’accueil, 6 engineers and 4 administrative and technical employees.

Public Service Laboratory of Bouches-du-Rhône Department Council

The laboratory's mission is to carry out inspections, analyses and diagnoses for the benefit of the population, and thus implement the Department Council's public health prevention policy.

  • Screening and biological follow-up of the patients from the medico-social centres (mother and child care, planning), free anonymous information and screening centres - Veneral Disease control centres and tuberculosis control centres.
  • Sanitary control of drink and bathing waters.
  • Sanitary control of foodstuff and collective food-borne infections.
  • Livestock protection from contagious diseases, and control of animal disease transmission to humans.
  • Dissemination and checking of good hygiene practices in the kitchens of public and private establishments.
  • Plant protection from parasites, import and domestic inspections.

The Carnot STAR institute pools together twelve academic research laboratories located in Marseille. Its activities range from fundamental research through high-tech innovations and cover 5 scientific specialties connected to a number of fields of application.
